Environmental site assessments PHASE 3

Phase III environmental site characterization consists of delineating the extent of contamination (area and quantity) when the presence of contaminants has been observed in Phase II:

    • Soil and groundwater characterization using boreholes or trenches.
    • Soil and water samples are taken from characterization boreholes. They are then sent to the laboratory for chemical analysis. The parameters analyzed are determined on the basis of environmental risks. Analysis results confirm the presence or absence of contaminants.
    • When contamination is observed, Phase III involves additional sampling to clearly delineate contaminated areas.
